Forestry Project
Nurturing Nature, Building Community
About our the Forestry Project
The Forestry has always been at the heart of Bald Hills State School. Tucked away behind our classrooms, this unique area – home to magnificent Hoop Pine trees – holds deep significance. The Hoop Pine is not only part of our district’s history, but also carries cultural importance for the Turrbal People, the Traditional Custodians of this land.
For generations, the Forestry has been a place where children explored, learned, and connected with nature. It is where stories of the Turrbal people can be shared, where the resilience of the Hoop Pines mirrors the values we seek to grow in our students, and where learning extends far beyond the classroom. Reopening this space will allow us to embed cultural learning, environmental education, and social-emotional development through programs such as The Resilience Project.
Restoring the Forestry will give students authentic, hands-on learning experiences that connect directly with the Australian Curriculum. Within this space, children can explore the key concepts of Country/Place, Culture, and People by learning from the Turrbal people, engaging with the natural environment, and reflecting on their role in caring for the land. These experiences bring the curriculum to life, allowing students to deepen their cultural understanding, strengthen their sense of belonging, and practice sustainability in meaningful ways that extend well beyond the classroom.
This restoration will need to happen in stages. The P&C is seeking advice from landscape architects to enhance the area and design pathways that make the Forestry safe and accessible for all. Most importantly, we are working closely with the community and the Turrawan Circle to ensure that this process is carried out respectfully and in a way that honours the cultural significance of the land.
By bringing the Forestry back to life, we will reconnect our students with a special part of their school, strengthen ties with the Turrbal people, and create a living, learning environment that truly represents the spirit of Bald Hills State School.
How can you

At present, the old Forestry trail is unsafe and does not allow all children to access and enjoy the area. The P&C believes this treasured space should be safe, inclusive, and available to every student. That is why we are fundraising to reopen and restore the Forestry—not only for our school children, but for the wider community to enjoy for years to come.
Your signature will demonstrate that our community is committed to building a school that values sustainability, inclusion, and the well-being of our students.
Donate to the Forestry Project
We need your help to make our Forestry Project a reality! Your generous donations will go directly toward restoring and enhancing our Forestry, creating a sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful environment for all students to enjoy.
First Step: Raising Funds for Arborist and Landscape Architect Consultation
As part of our Forestry Project, the first crucial step is to assess the condition of the heritage trail and Forestry space and determine the work that needs to be done for rehabilitation. To do this, we need to raise enough funds to hire a qualified landscape architect who can provide an expert evaluation and a detailed quote on the necessary work.
The architect will help us:
Assess the health of existing trees and greenery.
Provide a detailed plan and cost estimate for improving and enhancing our Forestry
We’re calling on our community to help raise the funds needed for this initial consultation. Your donations will directly contribute to the next steps of this important project.
